i took the halter off the petiete filly, then signaled her to move on, she moved eagerly and powerfully, showing more promice than ever, she cantered with grace and beauty, her legs balely skimming the soft dirt, she had boundless energy, i thought, she hasn't even broke a sweat, and she's breathing like sh'e standing still!!! suddenly, the boundless energy dissapered, she stopped instantly, her delicate nostrials flaring, and her body heaving for air "what's the matter, sweetiepie", i asked her with as much calmness as i could muster. her long legs buckeled and she fell to the ground, her eyes wild. i was about to call for the vet when i stopped short and realized, I was the vet!!, i thought it might be colic, but akhal-tekes almost never get colic because of their toughness..... i tryed to get her up, but as hard as she tryed, she couldn't barely raise her small head..... i asked her one more time "please, Missy, please, for me!!! " she made a huge push with her hind legs and scrambled to stand upright, her legs shaking, i led her to her stall, where, when i let go, she immediatly fell to the ground, her perlino coat now a pink rhinestone from sweat..... her blue eyes looked pleadingly at me, and i couldn't help but cry, why did she do this, what caused it, how did it happen soooo fast???, all of these questions swireled in my mind when i heard a voice or two down the aisle of the barn.....

Missy began to breath in short gasps, while i gave her a couple of shots, to help her breathe better, nothing happend, and i layed her haed in my lap as her breath became shallow, she closed her eyes, "please don't die Missy, you dont know how much i love you!!!!", i said as tears rolled onto her soft skin. she opened her eyes, pain in them, i cryed more, i didn't want my baby to die!!!, i had already gone through this before!!!, when my dear Hawk was lost in the Hurricane, "You have to try Missy!!!" she began to lift her head slowly, then let it land back on my lap, i now knew she was trying, for me. the voice (or voices, i cant reaaly tell) came closer, and i heard someone open the door.

I pushed open the barn doors and strolled between the stalls. Suddenly I heard Lizzy's cries. 'What is it?' I called running towards Missy's stall.

I walked Gunner into The barn and saw lizzy and alex gathered around Missy's stall. I hurridly put gunner into his stall and went to see what was up. *Hey guys whats wrong with...* i stopped in mid sentence. Seeing Missy laying downon the flor i immediately remebered the time Spot colicked. *i Lizzy it'll be ok.* i said hugging her. i ran to get a lead rope and help get missy up. *did you check for a crushed lung...? or a broken rib.. or a puncher lung.?* i said remebering all the things i read that could cause this. *She wasn't very well before was she?*

I shook my head and walked back to my horses in the barn. Checking on all my horses i didn't see any trouble. I got an idea. Running into the Isolation Barn i said as quietly as i could "Lizzy could it be ..enfluenze?"

suddenly, we heard a shattering neigh, and a loud "thump", "what the heck?.........", i said, when Autumn ran by the stall, galloped a lap aroung the arena, then came to the stall, now calm..... "there were marks all over her, whip marks, that i knew she could not have inflicked apon her self, she went to alex, and nickered in her masters comferting arms, and then lipped her hair, looking for teats, "Alex get er out of here and calm her down, i dont want your baby to get sick too!!!!!!!, u can stay with her, ill be fine till the vet gets here...."
